Findings from Our Pilot Program on AI-Powered Email Outreach for Animal Advocacy

Fully Automated, Scalable, and Cost-Efficient

Our AI-powered, fully automated outreach system is designed to drive high-impact animal advocacy campaigns with no need for staff or salaries. The system adapts to different audiences, cultures, and industries, learning from each interaction to continuously optimize its performance. Early Success: Restaurants Adding Vegan Options

In a pilot campaign targeting restaurant owners, we encouraged them to introduce more vegan menu items. Each email cost only 6 cents, and after sending 678 emails, we received 45 responses, leading to 6 soft commitments and 2 firm commitments to expand vegan offerings.

  • 5,200 meals × 0.096 animals per meal = 499 animals saved annually per restaurant.

With 2 firm commitments, this means:

  • 2 restaurants × 499 animals = 998 animals saved annually.

If all 8 commitments (2 firm, 6 soft) convert, the impact becomes:

  • 8 restaurants × 499 animals = 3,994 animals saved annually.

Cost Efficiency

At a campaign cost of $40.68, this translates to saving ~25 animals per dollar with the current firm commitments, and up to ~98 animals per dollar if all 8 commitments convert.

Even at the most conservative estimate, this intervention is ~35-140 times more effective than Rethink Priorities’ estimate of 0.7 DALYs produced per dollar for a generic chicken campaign (the most cost-effective intervention their model has analyzed), and 2 to 7 times more effective than the upper limit of Animal Charity Evaluators’ estimate of -6 to 14 animals saved per dollar by one of their top recommended charities.

This demonstrates the incredible cost efficiency of the AI-powered outreach system, allowing for a high-impact, scalable approach to animal advocacy.

As our AI system collects more data and refines its strategies, performance will continue to improve. Research shows that scaling data and compute resources together can lead to 10-30% reductions in error, with additional efficiency gains of 33-91% through techniques like data pruning. These studies suggest that doubling our AI’s performance within the first year of operations is a realistic expectation, further enhancing the impact and cost-effectiveness of each campaign.

Expanding Outreach: Politicians and Financial Institutions

Building on this success, we expanded our outreach to politicians and financial institutions, sectors with the power to drive systemic change. Within just 9 days, we secured 9 commitments to take pro-animal actions, including:

  • An Assemblyman drafting a bill for tax incentives for vegan businesses.

  • A State Representative supporting plant-based lunches in schools.

  • A financial institution requesting a detailed report on integrating animal welfare into ESG metrics.

These examples highlight the enormous potential of AI-driven outreach to influence decision-makers across industries, resulting in large-scale changes that benefit animals. Although the exact impact of such systemic shifts is harder to quantify, we believe they could be even more impactful and cost-effective than the already impressive results from our restaurant outreach campaign. By leveraging AI to engage influential sectors, we can drive substantial, lasting improvements for animal welfare on a much larger scale.

Global Expansion: High-Impact Regions and Audiences

Our system’s true potential lies in its ability to scale globally, reaching underrepresented regions where animal advocacy can have a profound impact. We’ve already begun adapting outreach for strategic regions such as China, India, South America, Africa, and the Middle East, targeting industries that can foster significant cultural and ethical shifts toward plant-based lifestyles.

For example, we’re currently in the process of customising our outreach for Chinese audiences, which will involve automating the drafting of outreach messages in Mandarin and using local communications platforms like WeChat and QQ. This localized approach enables us to drive meaningful change in regions where animal advocacy is often overlooked, but can make a meaningful and lasting difference for animals.
